Why choose press-on nails over the nail salon?
A typical manicure at a salon comes with several hidden risks to your health and your wallet. The chance of cross-contamination is always present, as is the possibility of developing allergies to nail products after long-term exposure. Having to sit with a technician for hours also increases the cost of the service, sometimes doubling the price of your mani, while taking up your entire afternoon.
With my work, you get the same high-quality nail art you would at a nail salon, without the long sittings and constant exposure to harmful UV light or gel products. You also save money by cutting out physical contact with a technician, allowing the artist to invest in the best materials for your enjoyment.
What is the difference between a custom set and a mystery set?
A custom set is created from a specific vision of the client's. They have a clear idea of what it is they want and are able to share those ideas with the artist, who can bring that idea to life. The artist and client work closely together to ensure that this vision is achieved.
A mystery set is left mainly to the artist to design, leaving the final product mostly a surprise for the client. The client may only have a theme, color, or shape and length in mind for the artist to design a look around, or they may just want to give the artist full creative control. The client generally gives little to no input on the design, and is willing to accept whatever the artist dreams up.
There is no price difference between custom and mystery sets.
What colors of gel polish do you offer?
I have a library of colors in different styles from a variety of brands. I can't provide them all on this website, but I will provide swatches of possible colors for you to choose from during the design process.
What shapes and lengths of nails do you offer?
I offer full-cover nail extensions in the typical shapes and lengths:
Square, Almond, Coffin, and Stiletto
Long, Medium, Short, Extra-Short, and Petite
Additional shapes and lengths may be available on request, though they may take a few extra days and incur and upcharge.
What embellishments do you offer?
I offer 4 types of embellishments:
linework
metal pieces
rhinestones
pre-drawn art (stamps, stickers, and foils)
I categorize my sets based on how heavily embellished they are, ranging from no embellishments to fully covered in them. The more embellishment, the longer a set will take. For an idea of what those different levels look like, you can view the gallery or message me directly.
Can I still wear these sets if I have a sensitivity to gel polish?
Yes, you can! I use a UV/LED topcoat for durability, but I can also finish it off with an airdry topcoat that keep your skin from coming in contact with the gel products.
I suffer from this condition, myself, and part of my goal is to make sure that everyone can use these products without causing themselves any harm. Make sure to communicate your health and safety needs with me in your initial contact.
Why is the nail prep kit sold separately?
I think we can all agree that those low-quality minis can pile up with every new set we get. It can be especially frustrating when you have your own preferred tools and products, and the prep kit ends up either taking up space or going to the landfill.
That's why instead of sending you a new bottle of cheap glue, flimsy files, and splintered orange sticks with every order, I've invested in higher quality nail care items that can be added to your order as you want them.
Each kit includes a mini bottle of Makartt brand nail glue, a cuticle multi-tool, my favorite foam nail file, and scented alcohol wipes.
How does the mystery box work?
The Zodiac Mystery Box is a month's worth of themed surprises based on the rising star sign. They are all shipped to be delivered by the time that season has begun, so you can be ready to be glammed out for it on time. The Taurus box, for example, would be shipped to arrive on or before April 21.
Mystery Box purchases must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the drop to ensure timely delivery.
Due to the nature of the Mystery Box, minimal client input is accepted beyond sizing, shape, and length. All sales are final. No substitutions, exchanges, or refunds are available.
Can you guarantee the fit of jewelry pieces?
Nothing frightens me like lovingly crafting a piece of jewelry for a friend and finding that I've made it too big or too small for them to enjoy. This is why I began investing in adjustable type jewelry craft many years ago.
All rings are mounted on an adjustable base for a customized fit on each client. Bracelets are made from memory wire that shapes to the wearer's wrist. Pendants include a 20-inch chain that can be shortened, lengthened, or replaced altogether. Earrings are also available in posts, hooks, or clip-ons.
If you have a particular sizing concern, please communicate it with me so I can accommodate you to the best of my abilities.
Do you store my data?
Unless otherwise requested.
I compile a new client's contact information, nail sizes and preferences, and date of birth into a client profile to be pulled from for their next order. These are kept offline to protect your information. Client profiles are purged after 12 months of inactivity.
How does your invoicing work?
During the design process, a quote will be determined based on client requests. Once the design is approved, an invoice including the final price and instructions for payment will be sent to your provided email. Follow these instructions to complete payment.
Why does payment need to process before you start working on my order?
As an independent artist, I rely on commission payments to cover the cost of materials and time spent on each project. Starting work without confirmed payment puts me at financial risk, especially since custom pieces aren’t easily resalable if a client backs out. Ensuring payment has processed lets me focus on delivering my best work, knowing the business side is secure.
What is your refund policy?
Due to the custom nature of my products, I am unable to provide refunds. I am, however, willing to offer replacements or a credit for future use.
Is shipping included?
Shipping is free on all orders of $100 or more. Otherwise, the cost is factored into your quote.
When will my order arrive?
This depends on where your order wil be shipping to, and if you choose to upgrade to priority mailing. Should you choose to upgrade, it will be factored into your quote. You will recieve an email notification about an estimated delivery date and time as soon as it is known.
What if my order arrives damaged?
Take clear and detailed pictures of the damage and send them to emily@madrosies.com within 24 hours of arrival. Make note of whether you would prefer a replacement or a credit for later use. Refunds are not available.
Why do I have to buff my natural nails?
This step acts like the sanding step during painting, creating a surface with some tooth for the product to adhere to. This prolongs the wear of the nail extensions. It is important to use VERY light pressure, only buffing away the natural nail's shine, not sawing into the nail plate.
Why can't I use UV/LED products to apply my nails?
These products should only be used with transparent nails, as they require light saturation to cure. My sets are almost always at least semi-opaque, preventing any light to reach the adhesive. UV/LED nail glue will not harden with the majority of my sets.
Exceptions may include sheer or semi-transparent sets, such as those done in jelly polishes.
Prolonged skin exposure to uncured resins is a leading cause of sensitivities and allergies to all gel polishes - conditions that are treatable, but irreversible. Please exercise extreme caution with all UV/LED products.
Why is basecoat necessary, and which one should I use?
Basecoats are an absolutely necessary step in any manicure. Primarily, basecoat creates a barrier between the natural nail and all other products, protecting from staining and other damage. It also creates a substrate which both the nail plate and extension can adhere well to, further prolonging the manicure. This also means that during removal, or if a nail does come loose, the layer of basecoat peels away instead of the nail. (Ouch!) Finally, many basecoats serve double-duty as nail treatments, with formulas for strengthening, moisturizing, growing, and fortifying the natural nail available.
There is no right or wrong answer to which type of basecoat you should use. It comes down to your personal preferences and needs. Airdry basecoats typically dry quickly and can be applied in two thin coats for a solid base. UV/LED products can be used for this step; just make sure you wipe off the tacky layer before applying your airdry glue. If you're the type who loves a new set every week, you might consider a peel-off basecoat that makes it easier to pop the nails off.
Are the nails reusable?
Absolutely! You may need to file and buff the glue residue from the underside to clean them up, first.
Can I soak the nails off with acetone?
You can, but you will lose the nails in the process. If you want to keep and reuse them, this isn't the method for you.
What do I do with my nails after removal?
The nails themselves are the only plastic you will find in your package. If you're done with them, please dispose of them in the recycling.
If you plan to reuse or save them, file and buff the remaining glue from the inside and wipe them clean with acetone. Store them in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
